Laura plays violin with Mr Wilson’s Second Liners.
Laura graduated from York University with a BA in Music, having previously gained four diplomas in violin and piano performing and teaching.
She was brought up on a diet of classical music but once moving to York University from her hometown of Teesside, she quickly found her place in the York folk music scene and began playing in pubs and forming folk bands.
After graduating she build up her teaching career and co-founded folk-rock band Blackbeard's Tea Party (www.blackbeardsteaparty.com) which started off as a busking band, but steadily grew into a popular touring, festival and wedding ceilidh band. Career highlights include playing at Glastonbury, the Borneo World Music Festival, and Fairport's Cropredy Convention.
Weekdays, Laura is an in-demand teacher, teaching in North Yorkshire schools and online from her home teaching studio in York.
Laura is a passionate advocate of how versatile the violin can be. She encourages all sorts of styles in her teaching from her study of classical, folk, klezmer, old time american and bluegrass fiddle styles. 90s dance in Mr Wilson’s has been the latest project with her instrument, combining her driving rhythmic playing with recreating melody and synth sounds.
